Chatham Farmer's Market Recap October 8, 2011

Red Lentil Roasted Vegetable Hummus
Yesterday was a beautiful day at the Chatham Borough Farmer's Market.  It started out cold (and dark) but ended with warm and sun.   These last two weeks were quite successful for us and we wondered if it was because we were in a our old spot from last year.   Either way it was fun seeing everyone and spending time doing what we love.  We had two special sides to with our veggie burgers yesterday.  Theresa makes an awesome Red Lentil Roasted Vegetable Hummus that we always sell out of.   I always hope we have at least one container left over so that I can take it for myself.   Of course this never happens so I cheated yesterday and kept some aside (albeit a smaller container) to take home.   So good---I had it on whole wheat bread as a sandwich....I love have hummus' sandwiches.

Theresa also experimented with making a Veggie loaf (think meatloaf without the meat)....they are mini loaves and perfect for one person.  I had it for dinner with a baked sweet potato.  I liked it because it didn't need bread and it had nice simple veggie flavors.   She is going to bring more next week...I am also trying to convince her to make the Hummus again.....it is a popular item.   See you Saturday!

Chatham Farmer's Market Opening Day June 25th 2011

Yesterday was the opening day of the Chatham Farmer's Market 2011 season.  I was a bit worried because we had been having such terrible weather.   My concern was unfounded because it was a beautiful day.   I got up early and picked up the burgers and packed out the hummus.   I drove to Chatham and got there just as Theresa did.   Luckily my nephew Daniel was there to help up set up the tent...we were a bit rusty.  We are in a new location....catty- cornered facing the entrance to the market...it turns out it is a great spot.   Again I was glad Daniel was there to help because we have a new sign that I had trouble hanging....he is much taller than me.

It was so good to see everyone again.   There are lots of new vendors too.   I loved that so many of our regulars were excited to see us....most of them had run out of their veggie burgers and needed to stock up.  Theresa also got her usual complements on her display, as you can see it is beautiful.   We will be back on July 23rd ....hope to see you then.  Oh don't forget to help us with our poll...let us know if you have any questions or suggestions too....we would love to hear from you.   Hears to healthier eating....happy summer!

Chatham Farmer's Market 11/20/10 Recap--final Market of season

What a day Saturday was.   Theresa cooked up some  awesome Harvest Vegetable Bean Soup made with the beans and veggies she always had on display.   She really outdid herself ~it tasted great.   The Market was fun and busier than it had been the last few weeks we were there.   It was a beautiful day to end the season on.   Thanks to all who came by....some came by and bought enough stock to get them through the next few months.   We sold out of almost everything....I was disappointed we sold out of the soup as I thought I could take some home.   Oh well T can always make me some.

The whole season was really wonderful.  We really enjoy working the market and talking to people about our veggie burgers.   We are so grateful that so many people like them and enjoy them.   We are going to spend the winter trying to figure out how to get them into more hands.  In the meantime if anyone wants any please leave a comment or send us an email.   We will do our best to keep up with demand.   In the meantime thanks again for a lovely Market Season....Happy Thanksgiving!

Chatham Farmer's Market 10/2/10 Recap

Today's Specials
We hadn't been to the Farmer's Market in a couple of weeks, but we were all prepared with our signs our food and our samples.   What we didn't count on was how chilly it would be (I thought it was more than chilly but I am not one to like the cold).   Although it was a bit cool it was a beautiful day without a cloud in the sky.

Theresa always likes to bring something different as our "side dish of the day"....she had me looking up events and holidays to see if we could tie our "side dish" into something pertinent. As you know from Friday's post it was World Vegetarian Day and that October is Vegetarian Awareness Month.....so she decided to do a really veggie "side dish".

As I mentioned Friday she made a Roasted Vegetable Lentil Hummus.  Instead of using chick peas she cooked up some lentils as seen in this photo:
Cooked Lentils

Here is a great photo of the roasted veggies.....I of course could have eaten them just like this:

It was a fun day at the Market but since it was cold we kept trying to stay warm.....but again it was beautiful. Here is a Photo I took...notice how chilled Theresa looks:

Theresa shivering!

We will return to the Chatham Farmer's Market on October 23rd so we hope to see you then. Hopefully the day will be just as beautiful.   Remember if you want anything please let us know....we have veggie burgers available to sell.   Oh and if you are in Waldwick stop by the Riviera Market and say hi!

World Vegetarian Day!

Today is World Vegetarian Day and we were busy getting ready for tomorrow's Chatham Farmer's Market.   We are bringing as our side dish of the a Roasted Vegetable Lentil Hummus.  All I know is that there is nothing like the smell of roasted vegetables. They are all my favorites: eggplant, zucchini, mushrooms, onions and garlic....love roasted garlic.  After they were done roasting I couldn't help but sneak a mushroom or two.

Turns out that World Vegetarian Day is the start of Vegetarian Awareness Month.   This is the perfect time to sample our Veggie burgers.  Stay tuned for our next Farmer's Market Recap!  In the meantime think about bringing more veggies into your life.

Chatham Farmer's Market 8/14/10 Recap

What a beautiful day we had at the Chatham Farmer's Market last Saturday.   The weather totally cooperated...not too hot and very sunny.    The traffic seemed a bit slow but we did ok in the sales department.   We sold out of all the hummus....which made me sad because I didn't get to take any home but glad because people really liked it.   We are off for the next two weeks returning on Sept 4th.....hopefully people will be lined up and glad to see us.

Here are some the sights from Saturday....the entertainment were a group of flutists who played very well.

Prepping for the Market~

We have a routine for cooking and prepping for the Farmer's Market.   We cook one night then package the next day.    I usually do the packaging but sometimes Theresa will come and start it while she is preparing the sides we are going to bring for the week.   Last week we were all about Salsas and Chutney's but not this week.   Tomorrow we are bringing three different kinds of Hummus. There is Red Pepper Hummus, Roasted Garlic Hummus and a Lentil Hummus made with herbs like rosemary, sage & oregano.     Theresa roasts the peppers and garlic herself then adds her magic touch.    I just got back from packing them out.
Lentil is on the left...Red Pepper on the right --Garlic to be packed~

another view...
The Lentil Hummus has a distinct taste of herbs and a smooth consistency...I see it paired with cheese.   The Red Pepper has a mild taste and the Garlic is well--garlicky with a kick.   Definitely something for everyone....

See you at the Chatham Borough's Farmer's Market~~~

Chatham Farmer's Market July31st....

Last night was another night of burger production at the Italian Riviera ~ we are truly back in the swing of things.   This week we were on a better roll and didn't stay too late.   I will package them tomorrow.   I am more the assistant than the chef.   Theresa is the real chef as these are all her recipes.   I just chop what she tells me to chop.   I also handle all the packaging ~ which I have down to a system.

Every week we also try to have some sort of side accompaniment.   Last week we had really wonderful Salsa...there was a Peach or Mango.   This week we will be having Hummus....two varieties --Roasted Peppers or Roasted Garlic.....they are both delicious.

We are also going to sample our Southwestern Veggie Burger~ Hope to see you there....
